God Does Give You More Than You Can Handle

I have always heard, "God doesn't give you more than you can handle." I used to agree with that until I heard another perspective. The morning after my Dad died the man from the funeral home said he didn't agree with that saying. His reasoning? Because when we have more than we can handle we lean on God. How true! Those are the times that we go to Him and we grow!

Zephaniah 3:17, "The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing." We do not struggle alone! This verse is true no matter where we are on our walk with God. No matter how many times we have messed up. No matter how often we pray or read the Bible. God wants to speak words of love, hope and courage over us. He wants to walk side by side with us!

I am reminded of Bill Wither's 1972 song, "Lean On Me." “Sometimes in our lives we all have pain, we all have sorrow; but, if we are wise, We know that there’s always tomorrow.” And if we are wise we know that we ALWAYS have someone to lean on. Someone who loves us more than anyone else and wants what is best for us. Jeremiah 29: 11, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." He has a plan for our lives and wants us to reach it!

We must trust God during these times even if we do not understand. We cannot understand all we are going to go through! God’s ways are higher than ours. Isaiah 55:8-9, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts”. We are not to lean on our own understanding. We do get more than we can handle but God can handle it! Thanks be to God!
