I was taught you never know when there could be an emergency so never let your gas tank go below half. I follow that rule. Recently, I noticed the gas light was on in my car! I was so distracted with the busyness of life that I had not noticed.
Isn't that how our spiritual tank is? We go to church to fill up on Sunday and think we can make it until the next Sunday. Depending on how life is going I can not always make it two days! It is our responsibility to keep our tank full (and this fill up is free!) Our tanks are depleted quickly when we are feeling stressed, lost, anxious, overwhelmed, inadequate, on edge, etc.
I believe God wants us to keep our tanks FULL! Psalm 107: 9, "...for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things." God knew we would be too busy and told us to go to a quiet place and get some rest. Mark 6: 31, "Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, 'Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.'" There are times when it is hard to get away or get rest but even ten minutes of quiet time outside can help.
God wants us to enjoy life. Even He sat back and looked at all He had made and said it is good. I love to do that when I am outside! Psalm 103: 5, "...who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s." When God renews us we can restart that engine and go some more!
When we allow Him, God fills, satisfies, meets our needs and gives us plenty. Romans 15: 13, "I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit."
What drains your tank?
