As soon as my dad got home from work he would lay out his suit and tie for the next day. He always enjoyed laying out his clothes and did a good job. As long as I remember I have laid out my clothes for the next day unless it is a beach or boat day!

God also wants me to have my clothes picked out and put on. Colossians 3: 12-14, "Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." God wants our clothing, our attitudes and actions, to reflect that we are His children and citizens of heaven! Paul called the believers in Corinth worldly because their behavior did not reflect their new identity in Christ!

Our identity in Christ means we should look, sound, think, and behave differently. The har0d part is not getting dressed but staying dressed! Sometimes we do not feel compassionate, humble, gentle, kind or patient but we can choose to put on these traits. Scripture and the Holy Spirit will help us!

After I dress I love to accessorize - jewelry and/or shoes - to bring it all together. God does the same! He adds love! And it brings the other Fruits of the Spirit together. Love, Jesus' love, is what makes it possible for us to stay dressed in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. If we remember to love the rest will fall into place. Make the best dressed list!
