Do You Need An Eye Exam

A few years ago I went for an eye exam for the first time in 20 plus years! My eye doctor asked why and I told him I had no vision issues. I got a lecture about coming in each year for the health of it. He said an eye exam can find many issues and there is a correlation between breast cancer and eye issues. I never knew that so now I go every year for the health of it.

The Bible talks about healthy eyes. Matthew 6: 22-23, "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that h darkness!" Focusing our eyes on the wrong things leads to sadness and destruction. When we are focused on the wrong thing we will never be content.

Materialism can be a curse and a blessing to those in need. God wants us to have healthy eyes to see where we need to be generous. Unhealthy eyes make us stingy and selfish. Proverbs 28: 22, The stingy are eager to get rich and are unaware that poverty awaits them." Proverbs 22: 9, "The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor." A bad eye turns a blind eye to the poor. A good eye sees the opportunities to be a blessing to others. We can keep our eyes healthy by sharpening our vision. We can do this by spending time in God's word, praying, helping others and having fellowship with other Christians.

"When you look at life through your good eye, you discover that there is more to everything than meets the eye!"
