Disappointments Mean Appointments

There have been many times in my life that things did not go as expected. I was disappointed but something even better happened. One time was when we had given up on coming back home to Wilmington and we were trying to by a lot in a new neighborhood in Greensboro. Every time we tried we would run into another roadblock. It was so frustrating. I did not know about trusting God at that time, I just leaned on my own understanding. Later we would realize that God had a better appointment for us. He found us a home that we could buy and live in for one year before we would have to sale it, and make money, to move to Wilmington. We would have had a hard time selling the other house with all of the new construction.

We all have times in our lives when we aren’t where we want to be or where we think we should be. The Bible says, 'do not lean on your own understanding'. Proverbs 3: 5, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." Why? Our hearts are deceitful, our emotions fluctuate, our understanding does not see the big picture that God see's. God knows all. We have to trust Him. What seems like a disappointment can be a divine appointment!

Isaiah 55:8-9, “‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the LORD. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’” We do not know all that God knows so we have to trust Him to guide us in the direction best for us. Romans 8:28, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” We cannot let today's disappointment blind us to the hope of tomorrow. God may have a better appointment for us!
