Dehydration

Dehydration is "a harmful reduction in the amount of water in the body." Dehydration can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on how much water and fluids have been lost. Our first sign is usually feeling very thirsty. My next sign is usually a headache. Some other symptoms are dizziness, fatigue, muscle cramps, sunken eyes or flushed skin. Drinking water is an easy fix but there are times I find I am too busy to stop and drink. The same is true with the Living Water. When we step away from God and His Word, even for a few days, that yearning for Him goes away. Weeks can turn into months. This happens when people miss church and get out of the habit.

We need spiritual nourishment and renewal. Jeremiah 17: 13, "Lord, you are the hope of Israel; all who forsake you will be put to shame. Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust because they have forsaken the Lord, the spring of living water." God is the spring of Living Water. In John 4: 10 Jesus speaks to a Samaritan woman. “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.'” Later in John 7: 37-39, Jesus says, "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.’ By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.”

"Living Water" is a symbol for salvation and a true knowledge of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. God continuously provides us with everything we need. Don't get dehydrated! Are you thirsty? Jesus says, "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink."
