Contentment and security are not found in career titles, social status, salaries, what neighborhood we live in, who we know, our level of education or what clubs we belong to. True contentment is found in the wealth of Who God is and the riches He graciously pours over us. When we constantly want more than He has given us, it reflects a discontent heart.

Contentment doesn't come naturally, it’s something we have to learn. Jesus is the only One who can fill the desire for us wanting something more. Hebrews 13:5 says, “Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, ‘I will never fail you. I will never abandon you’” God created us for all our desires to be met only in Him. If we rely on Him, He will help us learn contentment no matter what we go through. David learned contentment. Psalm 131: 2, "But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content."

Paul learned to be content while he was in prison! Philippians 4: 11, "I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances." He learned to be content when He was thankful for what God had provided. "Peace isn't the absence of pressure. It's the presence of God and our attitude toward His provision." Being appreciative sets us free from worldly desires. God becomes our greatest treasure because He is all we need.

"Contentment isn’t based on what we have; it is based on Who we know."
