Check The Balance

For years now I have had a habit when I go into a fun store (clothes, shoes, home decor, art, jewelry) I say, "God, please help me use my time and money wisely." And He does. I always say if there is a deal, He gets me to it. I believe when we are wise stewards of our money He does that. It was easier for me to get my money in check than my time. I wasted a lot of time. Ephesians 5: 15-16, "Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil."

One day I realized I often shopped because I was staying busy, not thinking. Like medical things, there is always a root cause. I needed to deal with some things which required sitting still which was very hard for me. Psalm 46: 10, "Be still, and know that I am God." But I did and within no time I did not like "staying busy". I like to shop if I am out of town but don't really care to anymore. I feel I have better ways to spend my time. I heard, "time is the only currency we spend without checking the balance so spend it wisely."

God wants us to use our time wisely. Psalm 90: 12, "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." He gives us 24 hours a day, the same 24 hours Mother Theresa and Billy Graham had! We get to choose how to use this time. But we must remember our time will run out. Are we using it to enrich God's Kingdom? Colossians 4: 5, "Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity." We will be called to account for how we have used the time and all the other resources God has given us.
