According to black Friday statistics, almost one in five believe they will never repay their debt in their lifetime! What a huge burden to carry around! The Bible tells us that we are to only serve one master and that is God. Proverbs 22: 7, "The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender."

Money is not evil but the love of money is. God knew with our free will and greed we would get ourselves in trouble. Money can boss us around, distract us, keep us from the Kingdom of God, claim divine status in our life and separate us from God. The Bible warns of dangers of debt. Deuteronomy 15: 6, "For the Lord your God will bless you as he has promised, and you will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. You will rule over many nations but none will rule over you." There are cases in which debt is not an option due to medical bills, loss of jobs and even bankruptcy.

I believe God will help us get out of debt but we have to do our part! Getting out of debt God's way begins with a personal relationship with Him. We have to accept responsibility, stop spending more than we have, be willing to change and accept the financial shape we are in. before we can begin to see God's blessings. Ask Jesus to show you the lessons you need to grow. The best thing we can do is tithe (give ten percent to God first), showing our faith. God says we can test Him in this. Malachi 3: 10, "'Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,' says the Lord Almighty, 'and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.'" There is a freedom that comes with being debt free.

Remember, it took a while to get in debt and it will take a while to get out of debt but nothing is impossible for God! Luke 1: 37, "For with God nothing will be impossible."
