Be Sure Your Sins Will Find You Out

Writer: Jill Jarrell NewsomeJill Jarrell Newsome

When I was in school and had my license I would sometimes leave school and go to the beach but I had to be home before Mom got home! It was hard for me to leave the beach so I would come flying in at the last minute and run upstairs to change. I would pray my car would quit making that "ticking" sound (the engine cooling) before Mom pulled in. I would think of my Granny saying, "be sure your sins will find you out."

I knew this was not my Granny's saying but I did think it was an old saying. It is an old saying from the Bible! Numbers 32: 23, "But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the Lord; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out." When asked if a tribe could leave their flocks and families while the men went to war, Moses agreed but told them, "But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the Lord; and you may be sure your sin will find you out"

We cannot hide from sin. The power over sin can pay you back! That is why we are warned not to flirt with sin. It cannot be shaken off, outrun or tamed. Paul also said in Galatians 6: 7-8, "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life."

The only way for us to escape sin’s consequences is to be forgiven of our sin through Jesus Christ. Romans 10: 9, "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." 1 John 2: 2, "He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world."

"What's done in the dark will come to light."
