Be Present In The Moment

"Mobile phones may bring you closer to those who are far away, but it will also take you away from those sitting next to you..." Some years ago, we were at dinner with a couple and she stayed on her phone - texting - the whole time. Three of us visited, she was not present.

Computers help us complete tasks quicker. What do we do with that extra time? We squeeze more into every day. In Psalm 127: 2, King Solomon wrote, "In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves." I think this is a warning against our busyness! We are constantly chasing the next project, sale, win, assignment, event or promotion. When we have all of this on our plate we are disengaging with our friends and family, those in our homes and at the table with us. We sacrifice being fully present with people we care about. More importantly, we are not able to be present with the Holy Spirit.

In Jesus' short time on earth He accomplished more than anyone. And no one has been or will be more fully present. Jesus said he did what His Father did. John 5: 19, "Jesus gave them this answer: 'Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.'" He stayed present with His Father and in constant communication with Him! We need to emulate Jesus and be present with our Heavenly Father.

Be still…know He is God…and savor it!
