I was sitting on our back porch yesterday afternoon when I heard birds squawking and I saw a pelican fly by with a fish in his mouth. His friends were all going to enjoy the feast with him but he was not planning on sharing his catch. I thought about that poor fish just swimming along and next thing he knew he was flying through the air.
1 Peter 5: 8, "Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour." The devil wants to sneak up on you. He prowls around like a lion. The devil does not announce himself. 2 Corinthians 11: 14, "And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." Remember when he deceived Eve, he quoted Scripture! Satan knows exactly which lies to whisper in your mind. He has watched you over the years and is well acquainted with your insecurities, weaknesses, and vulnerabilities. It is up to us to recognize the lies, and reject those lies with truth.
We can reject those lies with Scripture. Jesus came to bring us truth, freedom and light. John 18: 37, "'You are a king, then!' said Pilate. Jesus answered, 'You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.'” Luke 4: 18, "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,..." John 8: 12, "When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'”
We can also reject those lies with prayer. The Lord's prayer says, "...“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,” which may also be translated: “Deliver us from the Evil One.” Remember Satan does not have equal power to God! God is eternal, Satan is not! God has infinite power, Satan does not. God possesses divine attributes, Satan does not. God is omniscient, Satan does not.
John 10: 10, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." Satan is the enemy who wants to steal, kill and destroy us. Jesus has a purpose and a plan for our lives. He wants to give us life, abundant life!
Love the post today Jill and all the scriptures to remind us just how sneaky the devil is!!
