We should never believe our thoughts over what God tells us but I do. Satan loves for us to carry guilt and shame. He makes us think we are not worthy. When we do this we are basing everything on what we see and what we know. We are not trusting that God loves us and forgives us. Eve let Satan make her doubt what she had heard God say. Genesis 3: 1, "Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, 'Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden'"? The sin brought shame to them. They were embarrassed and tried to hide from God.
No matter what has happened in our past, we do not have to hide from God. He already knows anyway. We need to repent and move forward about our Father's business. If you asked for forgiveness He remembers it no more. Jeremiah 31: 34, "For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more." James 1: 21-25, "Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do." Then we will be blessed!
Scripture is God's Word and it never changes because He never changes. Customs may have changed but God's Word remains. When we do what God asks, we will reap a harvest of joy.
