Bad News & Worse News

"I got a call from the doctor and he said, 'I have bad news and I have worse news.' I said, 'give me the bad news first.' He said, 'You have 24 hours to live.' I thought what in the world could the bad news be?! I asked what the worse news was and he replied, 'I was supposed to call you yesterday. Sometimes we feel like if it wasn't for bad news, we wouldn't have any news! I certainly feel that way when I watch the news!

Bad news can come from watching the world news, our work, a disease, a diagnosis, death or even church news. This is no surprise because we were told we would have trials. John 16: 33, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." We all have different coping mechanisms but none will bring us peace. Peace comes from Jesus, the Prince of Peace.

When we have trials, we are to run to Jesus. He invites us with open arms in Matthew 11 28, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." We cannot handle our burdens but Jesus can. Give them to Him! He will never turn us away. Jesus knows our feelings. He was human and lived in a broken world. He has experienced hurt, disappointment and betrayal. He died for us to set us free from sin and pain. Hand your hurts over to Him today.

"When we put our burdens in God's hands, He puts His peace in our hearts!"
