Are You Believing Lies

Everything you see is not true. Everything you hear is not true. Everything you think is not true. How do you know if you are believing the truth or lies? Get in God's Word. Hear and study God's Word. In John 14: 16, Jesus says, "I am the way and the truth and the life." 1 John 2: 16, "For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world." Satan tried to tempt Jesus in the desert (Matthew 4: 1-11) so of course he is going to tempt us!

Temptations can come through food, sex, drugs and alcohol. Satan tempted Eve with an apple, which was good for food (Genesis 3:6). Satan tempted Jesus with bread while He was on a fast. (Matthew 4:3-4) Satan can tempt people through "stuff", making them lust after more material things. Again, he tried to tempt Jesus. Matthew 4: 8-10, "Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 'All this I will give you,' he said, 'if you will bow down and worship me.'” He makes us think those things will fulfill us but they are only temporary.

Satan tempts people with pride, boasting about what they do or what they have. Eve was tempted in Genesis 3:4-5, "For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." He tempted Jesus in Matthew 4: 5-6. "Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 'If you are the Son of God,' he said, 'throw yourself down. For it is written: “‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"

Jesus did not entertain him but shut him down immediately. Jesus always used Scripture. Verse 7, "Jesus answered him, 'It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’" Satan IS going to tempt us and he knows our weaknesses! Shut Satan down and quote God's Word. He will not hang around to listen to that!
