An Encounter With Jesus

My mom said if I wake up in the middle of the night and cannot go back to sleep then it may be the Holy Spirit waking me to pray for someone. Psalm 42: 8, "By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life."

During the night words for my writing come so clear probably because that is when I am quiet and still. There is an old proverb about the pillow being the best counselor. I believe it comes from God wanting to find us quiet and talk to us. Encounters with Jesus! I know it is frustrating to not be able to sleep but if we are going to be awake anyway.....spend that time with God. I have learned that the nights I have been up with Him I was not tired the next day, in fact, I am refreshed.

:Night time”, “before dawn” and “fourth watch of the night” are mentioned many times in Scripture. Matthew 14: 25, "Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake."

Jesus urged Peter to come out and walk on the water with Him. He did it because He loved Peter and wanted to encourage his faith. Peter was changed by this encounter with Jesus. He repented of his sins and followed Jesus. Imagine if Peter and the other disciples rolled over and went back to sleep. Imagine if Jacob has refused to wrestle the Lord in the middle of the night. Samuel heard his name called not once, but four times, in the middle of the night.

Do not miss out on an encounter with Jesus. 1 Samuel 3: 9, "So Eli told Samuel, 'Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’ So Samuel went and lay down in his place." Next time you can't sleep, say, "Speak Lord, for your servant is listening." Then listen! You may be getting ready to have an encounter with Jesus!
