Mike likes to remember the story of when I was pregnant with my first child. After I would get off of work I would walk four miles every day. I was in excellent shape. I tried to eat healthy. One particular night I had made a vegetable supper and we sat down to eat. I could not eat it. I do not know if it was not appetizing to me or if I had just had a very strong craving! Mike asked me what was wrong and I started crying! He jumped up and wanted to know what was wrong. I told him I wanted Burger King! He never laughed at me (then) or made fun of me but we got in the car and I had Burger King.
I have had cravings as long as I can remember! Not that make me cry anymore but I can get something on my mind and have to have it! The latest being the tomato sandwich this week after writing about it. I have learned that the more sweet things I eat the more I crave. I feed that sugar habit! Eating fast foods, processed foods, snacks, sugars and soft drinks can make us crave more sugar! The same is true with negativity, doubt, fear, guilt, regrets, shame doubt, etc. The more we feed those things the bigger they become.
In order to get rid of those negative thoughts I have to turn those thoughts over to God and trust Him. I have to trust Him to take care of whatever situation is causing the issues for me. We were not meant to handle things alone. We are not strong enough, smart enough, we are not enough! We have to have faith in God! Faith is believing in something even if we do not see it. Faith is knowing He will take care of things. Through faith we learn to trust Him. We only have to have a tiny bit of faith. Matthew 17: 20, "And He said to them, "Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you."
We all have faith in something. Quite frequently I ask my neighbor if they have a particular spice or ingredient that I need for a recipe. I have faith that if I ask them for it, and they have it, they will give it to me. This is what the disciples thought when they went to Jesus to ask for more faith. Luke 17: 5, "The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” The disciples are asking Jesus for increased faith. The fact that they were going to Jesus to make this request shows they have faith. They did not ask anyone else but Jesus because they truly believed Jesus could increase their faith.
Luke 17: 6, "He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you." So the disciples asked for more faith and Jesus told them they had enough! The reason Jesus told the apostles that they could move mountains or mulberry trees if they have the tiniest bit of faith. It is because they have faith in the One! The One who call do all things. If you are praying for healing do not put faith in your prayer. Put faith in the One you are praying to who gives you the power!
God gave us the gift of faith. It does not matter what size....it matters that we have it. Although faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains our trust grows in us prayer by prayer, experience by experience. As we live with our eyes on Jesus He will make these things visible to us. We must practice our faith. Feeding our faith will grow trust and hope!
While your doubt and negativity can create mountains, your faith can move mountains! Do you have faith as small as a mustard seed?
